Ken Sagawa
Emeritus Researcher
National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST)

Dr. Ken Sagawa graduated from Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan in 1975. He had worked for a few National Research Institutes (METI, Japan) until he retired AIST in 2010. Currently, he is serving AIST as an Emeritus Researcher with some advisory tasks for national research projects and international standardization.

His major field is visual psychophysics and its application to the assessment of visual environment. His recent studies have been directed to Accessible Design of visual signs and environment for the older persons and persons with visual disabilities.

Since 2001 he has worked for ISO for the standardization of Accessible Design starting from ISO/COPOLCO and then TC159 Ergonomics and TC122 Packaging serving as a convenor of working groups. He has been a convenor of ISOTC122/WG9 Accessible design for packaging since 2008.

He had also been long involved in CIE (International Commission on Illumination) as a Chair of several technical committees and a Director of Division 1 Vision and Colour, as well as Vice President and Secretary of the board of CIE.
